How a smart door lock works

A smart door lock replaces the keyed cylinder or the deadbolt thumb-turn with an electronic actuator. You unlock it by fingerprint, keypad code, phone app, or a physical key kept as backup. Inside, a small motor drives the bolt; a battery powers it. Most SEPOX models run for six to twelve months on a set of AA cells and warn you well before the battery is flat.
